This is it. The last stop of our Westgate, Alabang food crawl. After a whole afternoon of gorging ourselves (the fourth stop being Melo’s), we found ourselves in front of Detoxify Bar, a health nut’s paradise. Bursting at the seams, we waddled (this is the only way I can describe how I felt after downing so much food) into the restaurant with a promise that this would at least be a light and fruity end to the day.
Detoxify Bar is, as I said, a nirvana for people who like to lead healthy, active lives. They do serve savory meals, but juices and smoothies are the kings of their menu.
They decided to serve us their Berry Smoothie Bowl, a delightful container choc-full of berries and walnuts, blended together and topped with strawberry and kiwi slices, some sort of dried fruit and what looked like sesame seeds (though I could be wrong).
The way the bowl was composed was very attractive, I almost didn’t want to touch it, but then I did. It was very light, definitely something you’d want to finish with after having grilled pork belly and steak. There was a great balance of sweetness and tart, so you don’t get overwhelmed by either sensation. I only wish it could’ve been colder. Still, it was the only meal of the day I almost, almost finished, so that says something.
So if you ever find yourself seeking a sweet end to a heavy meal, you don’t always have to turn to your staple of chocolate cake. I’ve always found myself doing this, but now I find that a bowl of fruit can just as easily satisfy. At the very least, it can lessen your guilt after an indulgent dinner.
Overall rating (based on the food): ★★★★☆
