You ever experienced being so hungry, anything you can manage to grab and put in your mouth tastes amazing at that point? When my sister and brother-in-law left the house that night to pick me up, the last meal they had was lunch and it was almost 10. I was coming from a party where the food was so-so at best. So when we went to Wild West Roadhouse Grill in BGC, we were actually questioning our judgement and wondering if this was the case.
It wasn’t. The food really was just very good. (Besides, when we’re not happy with the food we just ate, we leave it unfinished and eat somewhere else.) With Wild West’s food, all I could do was nitpick to see if anything was wrong, but all things considered, we ate well. So well, in fact, that we had no problem polishing off each plate, a feat we hadn’t been able to do in a while.
We started the meal with some Crispy Pork Bacon. The strips of thinly sliced meat were crunchy and tasty as promised, though just a hair too salty. The spicy vinegar dip did its job though, stabilizing the flavor of each piece.
The Rodeo Beef was pretty excellent; the meaty strips were tender and had just the right amount of seasoning. The rice it came with was delicious too. It’s a shock to me that I can say that confidently since the rice was tossed with some bell peppers, which, as you know, is my sworn nemesis.
The Wrangler’s Pork Steak was just sliiiiightly overcooked, but the seasoning more than made up for it. The slices of Swiss cheese were a nice touch (the cheese lover in me was doing somersaults), as was the gravy that blanketed the whole thing. The mushroom rice, simple as it was, had a nice, subtle, herb-y flavor that went well with the pork.
The Chicken Fingers had a light and crunchy batter, while the actual strips were tender and juicy. And even the lemonade we washed the great meal down with was the perfect blend of sweet and tangy.
On top of an A meal, the service was pretty stellar. Our server was very friendly and helpful, making recommendations when we needed suggestions. He was quick to replenishing our napkin supply without us asking and to replace a dropped utensil even before we picked it up.
So… I haven’t rated a restaurant over the average 3-and-a-half stars in quite a while, and I have no problem giving Wild West high marks easily. With delicious food and great service, I can’t wait to go back and try other things on the menu. I hear the steaks are awesome and the Cowboy Chocolate Cake heavenly, so maybe I’ll give those a shot next time.
