(I’m introducing a new category called “Quick fix”, where I’ll be giving brief reviews mostly about food. Basically, it’s for when I’m too lazy to write a full-blown entry, so I hope you enjoy these short write-ups.)
Pastillas, to the unoriented, are soft, milky, sugary treats wrapped in paper. As sweet and probably diabetes-inducing as they are, they’re pretty addictive. And somehow, a small company from Malolos, Bulacan called Taste N See found a way to get junkies even deeper into the habit: by toasting the little suckers.
Taste N See Toasted Pastillas come in the form of little cubes that are a bit firmer than the candy normally is. Toasting them mixed in a touch of bitterness to the sweet and actually makes them pretty tasty. And packaging them in their naked glory instead of wrapping each one individually just gives you a reason to pop one after the other in your mouth instead of saving some for later.
They come in various flavors, but I only tried the original which are supposedly their best-sellers, according to the person manning this table at the mall where we encountered the little treats. If you want to give them a shot, they’re usually sold in those little food bazaar set-ups in malls.
